End of Session Report
The Business Council was engaged in discussions on a number of bills before both Houses of the legislature this session that impacted the telecommunications industry. Here is a brief summary of the priority bills that were not approved by one or both Houses.
- Call Centers
S.6918 (Kennedy) / A.9809 (Jeffries)
Would prohibit businesses that move a portion of existing in-state call center jobs to a foreign nation from state provided financial incentives, tax credits and/or procurement contracts for a period of five years, regardless of the business' remaining in-state employment or investment.
- Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)
S.5769 (Maziarz)/A.8459 (Brennan)
Would prohibit the Public Service Commission from regulating VoIP service.
- Assessment Ceilings for Local Public Telecommunications Utility Mass Real Property A.9733 (Galef)/S.6832 (Little)
Creates a uniform process of taxation on telecommunications utility transmission property located on both public and private lands.
