The Paterson Administration has told The Business Council that it intends to push legislation this session to increase maximum unemployment insurance weekly benefits, and increase the state’s UI taxable wage base.
A meeting of The Business Council’s Unemployment Insurance Committee is scheduled for Thursday, May 13 at 1:00 p.m. at 12 Corporate Woods Boulevard in Albany to begin evaluating and responding to these proposals. Department of Labor representatives including Nancy Dunphy, Deputy Commissioner for Employment Security, and Norm Steele, Deputy Director of the Bureau of Research and Statistics, will present on the status of the state’s Trust Fund, implications for employer taxes, and a discussion of various solutions to bring the trust fund back into a solvent position.
