Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver has formally announced
new leadership and committee chair assignments for 2007.

A key change is the appointment of Assemblyman Robert Sweeney
as chair of the Assembly Environmental Conservation Committee,
replacing Tom DiNapoli.
Assemblyman Sweeney is from the 11th district in Suffolk
County, on the south shore of Long Island. Sweeney was first
elected to the Assembly in 1988. He had been serving as
chair of the Local Government Committee and of the Legislative
Commission on Science and Technology. He also had been a
member of the Environment Committee for the past several
sessions.
Other committee changes include: Assemblyman Sam Hoyt as
chair of Local Governments Committee (whose responsibilities
include IDA legislation), Assemblywoman Deborah Glick as
chair of Higher Education, Michael Gianaris as chair of
the Administrative Regulatory Review Commission.
At the leadership level, Assemblyman Bill Colton is new
chair of the Majority Conference, Assemblywoman Francine
Delmonte is Secretary to the Majority Conference, and Assemblywoman
Pat Eddington is Vice chair of the Majority Steering Committee.
