2004 Priority Issue

 

Issue:

S.4212 (Velella)/A.4193 (Nolan), both introduced in 2003 but seeing no action last year, have seen movement in their respective houses. These bills would change the state unemployment law and allow striking workers to immediately collect unemployment insurance benefits if their employer hires replacement workers to keep its business going during a strike. Currently, striking workers must wait seven weeks before being eligible to collect unemployment insurance benefits while on strike. TBC's memo in opposition.

The bill remains with the Assembly Ways and Means Committee. No action since then.

6/22/04 It remains with the Assembly Ways and Means Committee.

6/15/04 S.4212 was passed in the Senate on 6/14/04. In the Assembly, the bill was reported from the Assembly Labor Committee to the Assembly Ways and Means Committee on May 20, 2004.
