PPI Book Says Mandate Relief Could Save Taxpayers $5 Billion
Local taxes in New York State, the highest in the nation, could be cut by $5 billion a year if Governor Pataki and the Legislature repeal and reform state mandates on localities and school districts, The Public Policy Institute says in a new book. The book was released at a press conference in Albany, including representatives from all of the major local-government organizations in the state. For a press release on the book, see the Institute's website, The $163 Lightbulb: How Albany's Mandates Drive Up Your Local Taxes see the Institute's website, www.ppinys.org. The book is available from the Institute for $10; for a copy, e-mail Missy Millett or call Beth Rymanowski at 518-465-7511.
