July 6, 2011
Contact: Darren Suarez
The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Joe Martens recently outlined the DEC’s revised recommendation on high volume hydraulic fracturing. The press material can be found on the DEC website.
The Business Council of the State of New York issued a statement in response to the DEC’s recent activities. The statement expresses the Business Council support for moving forward the process of permitting high volume hydraulic fracturing gas wells.
The Business Council is aware that some concerns have already been raised regarding specific provision that have been proposed for inclusion in the sGEIS. It will be of utmost importance in the coming weeks that the members of the Business Council have an opportunity to share information and opinions regarding the new recommendations. The Business Council is forming an internal “workgroup” to aid the transfer of information between members and the Business Council.
Additionally, Commissioner Martens announced the creation of an Advisory Panel on Implementation. The panel has a number of items under its charge including oversight, local impacts, and the current fee structure. Heather Briccetti the Acting President and CEO, of the Business Council of New York State, has been named to the panel.
With the recent announcement, New York State takes a significant step closer to the development of the Marcellus Shale. Please feel free to e-mail me about your interest in participating in the Business Council’s shale gas “workgroup” or call 800.358.1202 to sign up.
