Senate and Assembly Introduce New Water Withdrawal Legislation
Both Houses may take up legislation, A.11436-A (Sweeney) / S.8280 (Thompson), that would authorize DEC to implement a comprehensive permitting system for all significant water withdrawals. Specifically, this bill would create a comprehensive statewide water management program in New York State, and provide for the regulation of all water withdrawal systems that have the capacity to withdraw 100,000 gallons a day. Smaller public water supplies would no longer need new DEC permits.
This bill is poised to move before the close of session. The bill text is available here.
