Overview

The Business Council of New York State, Inc. is the premier business organization in New York State, representing the business community through unparalleled advocacy services and broad-based programming to strengthen our state’s businesses.  The Business Council Insurance Fund serves small, medium and large employers who want to provide their employees with group benefits.  We develop and distribute a full range of insurance products, including life, disability and dental insurance.  Currently, 2/3 of the membership participate in the group insurance and the roots of the trust can be traced back to 1957.

Job Summary

To achieve planned growth of the Insurance Fund through direct personal sales activity, leadership of the Insurance Fund sales staff and collaboration with the insurance broker network.

Duties of the job include but are not limited to:

  • Sell group insurance products and Business Council services through interaction with established insurance broker relationships. Develop new prospects. 
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director in establishing annual sales goals for each product in the portfolio. Develop the strategy and execution plans and meet the annual goals within the territories.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with the key brokers who market our portfolio of products (Group Life, Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability and Dental) to employers throughout the State of New York. 
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of products, services and programs by successfully competing and selling within the markets.
  • Compile and track sales data for evaluation and communication to the Board of Trustees.

Minimum requirements

  • New York State Life and Health agent licenses
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university preferred
  • Successful sales experience
  • A drive to succeed, a winning attitude and an interest in  career independence and professional growth
  • Required skills: interpersonal, decision making, presentation, negotiation skills and verbal and written communication skills

Compensation

A base salary plus commissions. Eligibility to participate in The Business Council’s comprehensive benefits program including Medical, Dental, Life and Disability insurances and a 401K plan.
