New York State's Higher Standards and Regents' Requirements for Graduation

The Business Council of New York State supports the learning standards and graduation requirements that were adopted by the New York State Board of Regents and are being phased in beginning with this (1998/99) school year. In a recent survey The Business Council found that employers across New York State remain very concerned about the quality of high-school graduates available for jobs. But they were generally much more satisfied with the quality of preparation provided in the state's community colleges, and in public and private four-year colleges.

Our members indicated overwhelming support for higher standards in the survey. All students must meet the Regents' standards in order to be competitive in the job market and in further education.
