ENGAGE
NEW YORK LETTER TO COMMITTEE MEMBERS
August 7, 2003
Dear Business Council Education Committee Member:
RE: Engage Seminar
The Business Council’s board of directors continues to view
improving student achievement in New York State as a key to sustained
long term economic growth. The Board’s Education Task Force,
lead by Bill Clark – VP, Agency, State Farm Insurance Companies,
created the Engage – New York Seminar (click
here for the brochure) to share with you what you need to know
about statewide and national education reform.
New York State is in the forefront of the standards-based education
reform movement in this country. But now comes the hardest part of
this reform – staying on course as schools struggle to adapt
to the new requirements. Business can play an important roll in keeping
the focus on improving student achievement and maintaining graduation
requirements along with an objective statewide measurement system.
Please join us for the first Engage New York seminar to be held
on Tuesday, September 9, 2003 at The Business Council offices in
Albany. This is the pilot of a series of regional seminars we are
planning to give business people the basic facts about standards,
testing and accountability issues and the national education reform
act – No Child Left Behind (NCLB).
Because this is a pilot seminar, our materials are not in final
form; your feedback regarding our materials will help us prepare
our documents for a final printing and distribution. To register,
please complete the enclosed registration form and return it by August
28, 2002.
