Following is The Business Council's 2006 Legislative Program. It identifies priority issues to be addressed by the Committees and Councils during 2006.
Mission statement
The explosion of technological innovation has allowed consumers and businesses to expand their interactions on the web.Some of these expansions lead to uncharted territory and raise issues of privacy, taxation, free-speech and security.The Business Council supports balanced and sensible legislation and regulations to protect consumers and businesses from unscrupulous practices on the web, without jeopardizing the legitimate commerce interests of the vast majority of users.
- Support the enforcement of existing laws against fraudulent
and deceptive marketers.
- Support a moratorium on taxation of Internet
services.
- Oppose restricting access to vital information businesses use to determine credit-worthiness.
