About the Labor/Human Resource Webinars

The Business Council is continuing its highly successful webinar series in 2018. This year we are doing things a little differently. In addition to our monthly Labor/HR webinars on trending topics, we are also including separate Q&A-focused webinars on the implementation of the state’s Paid Family Leave program. Unlike our standard hour-long webinars, these will likely be shorter and will not include HRCI certification.

As always webinars are free to members. Non-members must pay a $59 fee.

Topics include:

  • Unlawful Workplace Harassment Training
  • ADA/FMLA/Worker’s Compensation Compliance
  • Employee Work Schedules, Break and Meal Period Compliance/NYS Budget Update

Payroll Tax: To opt-in or not

 Thursday, July 26, 2018
 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
HRCI certification is pending

All New York employers will face a first-time decision by December 1, 2018 on whether to participate in the state’s “employee compensation expense program,” or “payroll tax.” This new provision of New York State tax law is intended to shield individuals from the effect of a federal cap on the deduction of state personal income taxes, by shifting employee PIT tax liability to an employer-paid (and fully deductible) payroll tax. Deciding to “opt-in” or not raises complex payroll, taxation and human resource issues. This webinar will explore the pros and cons of participation.
