MAY 1998New York's tax ranking improves in latest data
New York State taxes total $1,922 for every resident, a per-capita burden that is 10th-highest in the country and 15.8 percent above the national average, new data from the U.S. Census bureau show.
The new figures for 1997 show a noticeable improvement from 1995, when our state taxes were 24.2 percent above average. Tax cuts still being phased in will improve that picture further.
