NYSUT announces VOTE-COPE raised $2.7 million last year

The state's largest teachers' union seems poised to spend over $5 million on politics in the current two-year election cycle. New York State United Teachers announced this week that its VOTE-COPE political action arm had raised $2.7 million last year -- an increase of $333,000, or 14 percent, over 1996. A similar collection this year would put the two-year total near $5.4 million.
