Alesi takes Senate Commerce chair

Senator James S. Alesi (R-Monroe), a small-business owner and a long-time advocate for business and economic development in the state Legislature, has been named chairman of the Senate Commerce, Economic Development and Small Business Committee.

"Senator Alesi is an experienced Legislator with first-hand knowledge of the issues that are important to our statewide membership," said Daniel B. Walsh, Business Council president.

Senator Alesi played a key role in developing and passing the landmark unemployment insurance (UI) reform bill last year that ensured the viability of the state's UI trust fund while saving employers hundreds of millions of dollars.

Senator Alesi owns and operates Allstate Commercial Laundries, Inc., with operations in Rochester, Syracuse, and Albany.
