Employee Assistance Programs

The New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services is offering help to employers interested in creating an employee assistance program (EAP) to minimize the effects of substance abuse problems on both employees and their employers.

The office says more than 60 percent of substance abusers are employed in smaller organizations and typically do not have access to an EAP, which it estimates can save employers between $5 and $16 for every dollar invested.

The Prevention and Intervention Policy and Resource Development Bureau will help employers establish an EAP to suit an organization's needs.
