Q. Can a former employee get and 11 month COBRA extension if disable?

A. For a former employee or qualified beneficiary, an 11 month extension to the regular 18 month COBRA period is available if (1) the person was disabled at the beginning of or during the first 60 days of continuation coverage (2) the disability is an approved Social Security Administration (SSA) disability, (3) the COBRA Administrator is notified within 60 days of the SSA determination, and (4) the COBRA Administrator is notified before the end of the first 18 months of coverage.
