Q.
What are some of the specific employee compliance thresholds
for employers in New York State that I should be concerned
about?
A. For
employers in New York State, employing one employee subjects
an employer to the state's Clean Indoor Air Act (no smoking
in the workplace), the Unemployment Insurance Law and the
state's Child Labor Law. Employing four employees subjects
an employer to the state's Human Rights Law while the employment
of 10 or more employees subjects that employer to the jury
duty payment requirement under the New York Judicial Law.
