Q. We’re establishing a dress and grooming policy in our workplace. Are there any current laws or regulations that we would violate by setting up such a policy?

A. There are no specific laws in New York that regulate employer dress code and grooming policies. You are free to establish dress and grooming standards that you deem necessary and appropriate for your business. Of course, these types of policies are easier to establish and maintain if they directly apply to the business activities of the organization and are consistently applied across your workforce.
